"Expositus" Logo
Status: Testing
The "Expositus" logo represents an effort to revive an old practice of openly documenting and publishing scientific methods and discoveries. This project does not represent a new kind of license, nor should it be used as such. The Expositus logo is meant to act as a representation of an "honorable agreement" between the author(s) of a document that bears the logo, and the audience who utilizes the information therein. The agreement entails that the author(s) have sufficiently researched and detailed the topic they are presenting, such that it meets the following criteria:
- The document and its contained methods and discoveries must be freely and publicly available.
- The document must be an original work or a revision by the listed author(s).
- There must be a date of first publication on the document along with the name(s) of the author(s).
- The document must have a bibliographic section that clearly denotes any sources upon which the research or discovery was based.
This project is largely done in response to the current trend of concealing research and discoveries behind paid subscription services, and the far more reprehensible practice of encumbering scientific advancement with patents. The Expositus logo is intended to be placed on the final revision of a document and not a working draft. It should also be noted that once information is placed in the public domain, it is no longer patentable.
The Expositus logo should not be modified.
The word "expositus" is Latin and is usually translated as "open, accessible or exposed".
